Default Tiscali UK for sale - Sky, BT , Carphone in bids

The FT says "BT Group, British Sky Broadcasting and Carphone Warehouse are all considering offers for the UK arm of Tiscali, the Italian telecommunications company that was effectively put up for sale this week".

Massimo Cristofori, Tiscali's chief financial officer, suggested this week the company would prefer not to break itself up.

"It may have little choice but to split up the business as the number of potential suitors wishing to take on both the UK and Italian parts of the business is likely to be limited," said Michael Philpott, an analyst at Ovum Research.

Default I can't see Sky wanting Tiscali

Although to be honest I can't see anyone wanting Tiscali. It realy is the most halfhearted attempt at an ISP/TV service there is. Also I've read the download monkey review. Sorry - the picture quality is just crap. There's no reason anyone would want this rather than virgin or sky or BT.

The more I think about this, I think its down to either CPW or Sky.

The thing is though, whoever buys it, has some serious crap to sort out. There are a lot of disgruntled customers of Tiscali, especially as they have (imho) been seen to be moving people over to LLU connections without telling people.

Looking at forums across the net, the discontent is there to see.

Default My money is on CPW

I can't see Sky wanting to inherit a bag of angry punters - or being dim enough to do so. CPW won't care nearly as much.

Default Sky would want Tiscali for the numbers

Even if they are unhappy, buying Tiscali would immediately add a big bunch of new users to the Sky platform - and don't forget, Sky has a target of reaching 10million customers by 2010. All the low hanging fruit has been grabbed. Deals like this might make more sense that they seem. Also, if I was a Tiscali customer who got migrated to Sky, I'd be delighted.

I hope Sky do get Tiscali, at least Sky know how to run a network. CS may be not quite at 100% but for those of us without need to ring CS, the service rocks!
